Lump Sum Prepayment

Prepayment

All District property owners may opt out of the Annual Special Levy that is included on the Colfax County annual tax bill by paying a lump sum, or prepaying.  Prepayment releases the District lien upon the property when nothing is owed to the Colfax County Treasurer and it is significantly less than paying the assessment annually. It is important to note that there will be one more assessment on the next tax bill when the prepayment is paid after July 1.  (See July 1 Prepayment for more detail). 100% of collected prepayments are used to reduce outstanding debt.  When selling your property, the buyer may assume the annual assessment or the seller and/or buyer may prepay at the time of transfer.
A prepayment is NOT a payoff and only pays the future assessments. Any assessments already billed through the County Tax Bills are still due if they have not been paid.
